Athens is not just the capital of Greece, it truly is the cradle of western civilization. During my high school I took classical studies, so I had a chance to learn a lot about ancient Greek language, literature and philosophy (along with the Latin ones). Personally, I’ve been to Athens 3 times so far and every time I discover some new aspects of this beautiful city. As must-see locations I obviously recommend the magnificent Acropolis, Monastiraki market and the bustling Plaka area. Mount Lycabettus is by far the best place to view the entire city from above (unless you don’t fly over the city). Excellent food and great shopping deals are the perfect icing on the cake.
